- KUMERBANDS (Lit. waistband)Coarse woollen shawls in India, worn wrapped around the body by the natives as a waistband. It is chiefly used by Mohammedans, and made 10-in. to 15-in. wide, mostly red or red stripes. Wool was used in Northern India and cotton muslin elsewhere. Always plain weave, about 5 yards long.
